The Dallas Mavericks offense might have been shining bright in Macao, China, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Houston Rockets from absolutely dropping them 135-117 in the opening game of their two-game preseason series. Yeah, you read that right, an 18-point beatdown, even with the Mavs putting up some serious numbers.
Dallas Showed Flashes, But Couldn’t Close
The Mavericks’ attack looked good, especially with reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg leading the charge. You also had strong performances from Naji Marshall, Zaccharie Risacher, and Max Christie. They were doing their thing, getting buckets, making plays, but then Houston just kept answering. For all their efforts, they just couldn’t contain the Rockets’ seasoned squad. You gotta wonder if those flashes of brilliance can translate into defensive stops when it really matters.
Rockets Sent a Message in Macao
Houston came out swinging and showed they mean business, even in preseason. Who else but Kevin Durant to lead the way, kicking off his 19th NBA season? Nineteen seasons, people! That’s insane. He, along with Fred VanVleet and Amen Thompson, just ripped through the Mavericks’ defense, piling on 135 points. It’s only preseason, sure, but that kind of offensive firepower, especially with KD looking sharp, is a statement. This isn’t some rookie squad; they’re looking like a team ready to roll.
Beyond the Court: The NBA China Games Experience
This trip to Macao isn’t just about the games, though. The Venetian Arena has turned into a total basketball party with NBA House, an interactive expo blending music, live entertainment, fashion, and retail. Plus, fans get NBA Fan Day on Saturday, Oct. 10, where they can actually interact with players and catch performances by some amazing Asian artists. It’s a whole vibe setting the stage for the next game.
So, what’s next? The teams are back at The Venetian Arena for game two on Sunday, Oct. 11. Will the Mavericks figure out how to slow down that Rockets offense? Or will Houston keep flexing their muscle and close out the series sweep in Macao? We’ll be watching.
