The São Paulo U-20 squad is about to kick off their Campeonato Paulista round of 16 tie this Sunday, and they’re doing it away from home in a rematch we’ve already seen. They are set to face Desportivo Brasil at 10 a.m. at Estádio Ernesto Rocco in Porto Feliz, São Paulo, with live coverage hitting Ulisses TV’s YouTube channel.
Júlio Baptista’s Squad Is Rolling
Led by Júlio Baptista, this team has been straight-up impressive. Their first stage campaign in the state championship was something else, racking up 10 wins, three draws, and just one single defeat across 14 matches. They hammered in 23 goals while only letting in four. Talk about locking it down! That insane performance locked them into second place in Group 2 with a solid 33 points. So yeah, they’re coming into this last-16 tie with some serious momentum.
How They Got Here: Knockout Round Grind
Getting to the round of 16 wasn’t a cakewalk either. In the second stage, São Paulo went head-to-head with EC São Bernardo in a two-legged tie. The first leg, played away at Estádio do Taboão, ended in a tense 0,0 draw. But the return leg back home in Cotia? Totally different story. São Paulo handled business, winning 2,0 with clutch goals from Renan and Guilherme Reis. That’s how you book your spot in the next round, right?
Second Time’s the Charm?
Here’s where it gets interesting: Sunday’s game isn’t the first time these two teams have met in this championship. São Paulo actually visited Desportivo Brasil at Estádio Ernesto Rocco earlier in the first stage and walked away with a 1,0 victory, thanks to a goal from Angelo. So, they know this stadium, they know this opponent, and they’ve already proven they can get a win there. Can they replicate that success and get a crucial away result to start this round of 16 tie off right?
