Texas Tech didn’t waste a second after their in-state rivals, Arch Manning’s Texas, took a gut-wrenching 27-24 upset loss to Oklahoma on Saturday. The Red Raiders, clearly feeling themselves, dropped a straight-up fire troll on Monday, kicking the Longhorns while they were down. It’s exactly what you want to see from a rival when the other guys stumble.
Big 12 Rankings and Records: Who’s Leading the Charge?
This Red Raider troll hits different because Texas Tech isn’t just talking trash; they’ve got the record to back it up right now. They’re sitting pretty at 5-0 and cracked the top ten, grabbing the 10th spot in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. Sure, Texas is still ahead of them at No. 7, even after that brutal loss to Oklahoma, but the gap is closing fast. When you’re rolling 5-0 and your rival just choked away a game, you earned the right to have a little fun at their expense.
Chasing Double-Digit Wins and Playoff Dreams
Both of these Texas teams have huge aspirations for 2026, and this rivalry jab only adds fuel to the fire. Texas Tech is clearly gunning for a repeat of last year’s monster season where they went 12-2 and earned a spot in the College Football Playoff. That was only their second double-digit-win season since way back in 1977, so you know they’re hungry to keep that momentum going. Meanwhile, the Longhorns are still holding out hope to notch their fourth straight double-digit-win season in 2026. After getting stunned by Oklahoma, that goal just got a little tougher, and Texas Tech made sure everyone knew it.
This early season jab sets the tone for the rest of the year. Texas has to shake off that upset loss and live up to their No. 7 ranking, while Texas Tech looks to continue their undefeated run and keep climbing. You can bet every game for both squads is going to be watched with even more intensity now, knowing how much these two rivals are already keyed in on each other.
