The Jacksonville Jaguars are making moves, and it’s all about special teams. They just snatched up veteran long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer, and here’s the kicker: the dude is already en route to London! This isn’t just a routine signing, it’s a full-on scramble to stabilize a crucial position with a huge international game looming.
From Defensive Tackle to Game-Winner: The Long Snapper Emergency
This whole situation blew up because Jacksonville’s regular long snapper, Ross Matiscik, went down hard. He suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday’s big win against the Eagles. Talk about bad timing! But here’s where it gets wild: defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton actually stepped up and handled the snapping duties. And get this: he successfully got the snap down for the team’s game-winning field goal. Seriously, a defensive tackle pulling off game-winning special teams heroics? That’s the kind of grit you love to see, but it clearly highlighted a massive hole that needed filling ASAP.
Bobenmoyer on the Way: A Quick Fix for Special Teams
Enter Jacob Bobenmoyer. The 29-year-old long snapper is no rookie to the NFL grind. He spent three seasons snapping for Denver and then another three years with Las Vegas. That’s six seasons of experience in the league, so he knows the drill. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the signing, emphasizing the urgency by noting Bobenmoyer’s immediate travel plans. This isn’t a tryout, it’s an emergency call-up, and the Jaguars are clearly hoping his experience can plug that special teams gap without a hitch.
The Jaguars are set to face the Texans in London this Sunday. Getting Bobenmoyer across the pond and integrated into the team’s special teams unit before kickoff is going to be a mad dash. His immediate availability is absolutely critical for keeping things smooth on field goals and punts. Let’s see if this veteran can jump right in and help secure another W across the pond!
