No. 24 Florida State soccer absolutely blindsided No. 4 Wake Forest on Thursday, securing a dominant 2-0 road victory at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This wasn’t just a win, it was a statement, pushing the Seminoles’ record to a seriously impressive 6-1-3. The Demon Deacons had no answers as FSU proved they’re way more dangerous than their ranking suggests.
Henderson’s Clutch Header That Rocked The Deacons
With a mere two seconds left in the first half, Ashlyn Henderson found herself wide open on a corner kick and steered a header right into the top corner, giving FSU a vital lead heading into the break. That was a well-earned lead, too, with the Seminoles outshooting the Demon Deacons 9-6 in the first half. Henderson’s dramatic goal shifted the entire momentum of the game, leaving Wake Forest reeling as the whistle blew.
FSU’s Counter Punch That Sealed The Deal
The Seminoles kept their cool in the second half, allowing Wake Forest to maintain much of the possession but masterfully limiting their scoring chances. FSU’s counterattack game was absolutely firing, and their high press paid off big time, directly setting up the second goal. Wrianna Hudson snatched an errant pass from a Wake Forest defender and charged straight for goal. She took on a pair of defenders, then uncorked a left-footed strike that nestled perfectly into the top left corner, icing the game for FSU. Overall, the Seminoles outshot Wake Forest 15-12, proving their attack was just too much.
Next up, FSU hits the road again for another challenge. They’re heading to Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, October 18, for a 1 p.m. matchup against Pitt. You can catch all the action on ACC Network Extra. Can the Seminoles keep this incredible momentum rolling after such a massive upset? You know all eyes are going to be on them.
