The Golden State Valkyries are already up 1-0 in the WNBA Finals over the Atlanta Dream, kicking off their second franchise season with a massive Game 1 win at Chase Center in San Francisco. Talk about quick success, right? This team is just getting started and they’re already making a huge splash.
Williams Goes Off as Dream Can’t Close It Out
Game 1 was a tight one, but the Valkyries pulled out a 68-64 victory, thanks in large part to Gabby Williams. She absolutely went off, dropping a massive 26 points. What’s wild is she was the *only* Valkyrie player to even hit double digits. That’s some serious carrying right there, especially after their huge second quarter. On the other side, the Atlanta Dream showed a lot more balance, but it just wasn’t enough. Allisha Gray led them with 19 points, Angel Reese put up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Rhyne Howard added another 12 points. Even with all that balanced scoring, and even holding a lead with mere minutes left on the clock, the Dream couldn’t hold on. That’s gotta sting, falling short like that in the Finals opener.
What’s Next for the WNBA Finals
Now, all eyes turn to Game 2. It’s happening Monday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET, back at the Chase Center in San Francisco. If you’re looking to catch it live, tickets are starting at $214. You can also tune in on USA Network, CNBC, or E!, or stream it on Peacock.
The series is just getting started, with a full seven-game schedule laid out:
* Game 1: Golden State def. Atlanta, 68-64 (Oct. 17)
* Game 2: Monday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. ET in Golden State
* Game 3: Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET in Atlanta
* Game 4: Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. ET in Atlanta
* Game 5*: Monday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. ET in Golden State
* Game 6*: Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. ET in Atlanta
* Game 7*: Saturday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. ET in Golden State
The Dream absolutely need to bounce back in Game 2, especially after letting Game 1 slip away. Can they figure out a way to contain Williams, or will Golden State take a commanding 2-0 lead before heading to Atlanta? It’s going to be a must-watch game.
