Elle Travers of Benjamin cross country absolutely crushed it last week, pacing the field at the Benjamin Invite with a 22:48.91 finish to take first place. Seriously, that’s how you make an entrance! Now, the heat is on for this week’s “Athlete of the Week” honors, and we’ve got some incredible performances from Palm Beach County’s high school girls ready to snag that title. Get ready to vote, because these athletes brought their A-game from October 12-17.
Volleyball Courts Were ON FIRE Last Week
The volleyball scene was wild, with district championships on the line, and these ladies stepped up big time. Alexa Arenson, a senior from Dwyer, led her Panthers to a massive 3-0 district championship sweep of Seminole Ridge. She was an absolute force, tallying 17 kills with an insane .586 kill percentage. Talk about efficiency! Not to be outdone, Amelie Fortinho, a junior from Spanish River, helped her team beat Western in a hard-fought 3-2 district championship win, contributing seven kills and a team-high five blocks. And then there’s Delaney Leite, a sophomore from Dr. Joaquín García, who led her Bulldogs with 15 kills and 23 assists in a 3-1 district championship victory over Wellington. These stats are just wild.
On the Green, It Was All About Low Scores
Over on the golf course, we saw some impressive rounds too. Sara Valentine, a freshman from Cardinal Newman, paced the field with a 37 in a regular season match against Dwyer. That’s a phenomenal score for anyone, let alone a freshman! And Sofia Clay, a senior from Park Vista, crushed it even harder, pacing the field with a 35 in a regular season victory over Olympic Heights. These girls are definitely ones to watch as the season rolls on.
So, who’s taking home the Athlete of the Week crown this time? Elle Travers set the bar high with her cross country dominance, but these volleyball and golf stars are making a serious run for it. Voting is open until Friday, October 23 at noon, so get in there and make your pick! It’s all about recognizing these incredible performances.
