The Washington Commanders are officially not dead yet! After being absolutely buried, down 20-3 at halftime and then staring down a brutal 23-3 deficit in the third quarter, Jayden Daniels just led a stunning comeback that’s pulled them within 23-17 of the 49ers. Talk about a gut check.
Daniels Sparks Second-Half Surge
Nobody saw this coming. The Commanders looked totally flat in the first half, managing a measly 17 plays for just 90 yards. It felt like the game was over before the third quarter even started. But then Daniels flipped a switch. The offense started clicking, and suddenly those 49ers defenders weren’t looking so invincible.
Penalties Fuel the Fire
Daniels’ second touchdown toss, the one that got them within one score, came after a huge 10-play, 80-yard drive. That drive got some serious help, too. A crucial illegal contact penalty on Renardo Green bailed them out on a third-and-4 incompletion, and then a roughing the passer penalty on Osa Odighizuwa kept the momentum rolling. Daniels capitalized, hitting Stefon Diggs for a 1-yard touchdown with 15 seconds left in the third quarter. Then, with 9:22 remaining in the fourth, he found Rachaad White for a 9-yard score. Daniels is now 22-of-27 for 217 yards and those two huge touchdowns. In the second half alone, Washington has ripped off 25 plays for 145 yards. This game is on a whole new level.
