The 2026-27 NBA season is barely kicking off, but we’re already getting an absolute heavyweight bout: the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs, last season’s two wins leaders and Western Conference finalists, are locking horns. Forget easing into the schedule, folks, because the road to the NBA Finals? It might just be starting tonight, right now, with these two giants going at it.
Wemby vs. Holmgren: Round Two is LIVE
Last time these two titans clashed, it was an epic seven-game slugfest to crown the Western Conference winner, with the Spurs ultimately taking the series. That victory was thanks in huge part to Victor Wembanyama’s absolutely heroic performance, giving him a decided advantage over OKC’s Chet Holmgren. We know the Thunder were missing a healthy Jalen Williams for that series, which was a tough blow, but the Spurs’ young core also went on an “ahead-of-schedule Finals trek” that gave them some serious life lessons. You can bet both teams are looking at this early season matchup as a statement game, showing everyone in the West who’s really running things this year.
Spurs’ New Look and OKC’s Perimeter Wall
San Antonio also didn’t fully commit to their new three-guard lineup in that last playoff series, but they’re all in now for this season’s early slate. De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper are set to carry the load, but talk about a baptism by fire! They’re starting the season with probably the hardest test they’ll ever draw, going up against OKC’s deep and talented stable of perimeter stoppers. You know the Thunder are going to be aggressive defensively, trying to disrupt that new backcourt rhythm right from the jump. This isn’t just a regular season opener, it’s a strategic chess match unfolding right before our eyes.
This isn’t just a game, it’s an instant classic waiting to happen. Both teams are coming into this season with fire, and with so many key matchups and new dynamics, you just know this one is going to be packed with top moments and highlights. Get ready!
