Kinzli Batson officially nabbed the Scioto Valley Conference Player of the Year award, becoming the first Sherman to earn that incredible honor since way back in 2017. If you have been watching Unioto this season, you know exactly why the junior has been leading the charge.
Batson’s Unreal Numbers Are Stacking Up
This kid is not just a setter, right? She is absolutely everywhere on the court. Batson racked up 55 kills, blasted 43 aces, threw up 37 blocks, and dug out 189 balls. But let us be real, the 749 assists this season, capping off her 1,000th career assist? That is next level. She is the undisputed engine driving this Unioto squad to a dominant 12-2 record in league play. Her steady hand has been key through every twist and turn this season, and she absolutely deserves this recognition.
Dalton’s Defensive Dominance and Patterson’s Coaching Prowess
But Batson was not the only one getting hardware. Over at Adena, Kimmy Dalton is a straight up brick wall, grabbing her third consecutive SVC Defensive Player of the Year award. Third time in a row, people! She is sitting on 469 digs and 416 serve receptions this season across 76 sets, pushing her career total to a wild 1,520 digs as they head into postseason play. You cannot get anything past her, seriously.
And you cannot talk about Unioto’s success without shouting out Coach Gavin Patterson, who got the nod for Coach of the Year. In just his second year with the program, he has guided the Shermans to a killer 17-6 overall record. Plus, Unioto also saw Charlotte Dennis and Kori Grubbs make First-Team All-League alongside Batson, with Adena adding Jacey Jones and Allie Bossert. That is some serious talent stacking up across the conference this year!
So, what is next for these squads? Postseason play, that is what! With Batson and Dalton playing out of their minds, and Coach Patterson leading Unioto, you know these teams are coming into the playoffs with some serious momentum. We are talking about proven leaders and game-changers hitting the court when it matters most. Get ready, because it is going to be wild!
