Cleveland defensive end Jared Verse isn’t playing coy. Ahead of Sunday’s rematch, he laid it all out: “I’m not worried about Cam, I’m not worried about their O-line, I’m not worried about nobody they got on their team. We’re out there to go dominate. We’re about to make Pittsburgh ours on Sunday.” This isn’t Verse’s first jab, and it’s turning up the heat on a rivalry that’s already taken on major significance, especially with both teams sitting at a red-hot 5-2.
The Chatter Escalates
The back-and-forth between the Browns and Steelers has been building all month. After Cleveland hosted Pittsburgh on October 1, Verse had some things to say about the Steelers. Then, Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward fired back with his own comments about Verse’s initial remarks, setting the stage for Sunday. But Verse wasn’t done. On Thursday, he delivered this latest verbal blow, a clear message to their AFC North rivals.
History Repeating?
This isn’t new territory for this bitter rivalry. Verse’s comments rank right up there with some classic pre-game smack talk. Remember JuJu Smith-Schuster’s infamous “Browns is the Browns” remark before that 2020 wild-card playoff game? Yeah, the one where Cleveland absolutely blew out the Steelers. From the Browns’ side, we’ve seen former defensive tackle Gerard Warren get the league office’s attention for his words about then-rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger: “One rule they used to tell me: Kill the head and the bo…” It’s clear that in this rivalry, words can hit just as hard as tackles.
Sunday’s rematch is set to be electric. With both squads sitting at 5-2 and Verse throwing down a challenge like this, every hit, every yard, every single play will matter. You know Pittsburgh heard that quote loud and clear. Get ready for fireworks when these two teams clash again on the field.
