Arsenal took a gut punch, getting bounced from the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier Fleetwood Town in a penalty shootout midweek. It was an embarrassing slip, no doubt about it, but this team still has their eyes on defending last year’s Premier League title. Now they’re heading to Anfield for a brutal Sunday showdown against Liverpool, and it’s going to be wild.
The Gunners’ Rocky Road to Anfield
Even after that shocker against Fleetwood, the Gunners are sitting second in the Premier League table. They’re level on points with first-place Manchester City, only behind on goal differential, which tells you just how tight this title race is already getting. Arsenal has a title to defend from last year, and a stumble like that against a fourth-tier side, even in a different competition, has to sting. It makes this trip to Liverpool even more critical for them to prove they’re still championship contenders.
Liverpool’s Charge and the Massive Stakes
Liverpool isn’t making it easy either. They are six points back in fourth, but they’ve been on a roll in league play, winning three of their last four. Plus, they grabbed a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the League Cup recently, so they’re feeling good and carrying that momentum. Anfield is always a tough place to play, and Liverpool will be looking to close that gap on Arsenal and shake up the top of the table.
