Victor Wembanyama stepped onto the scene Saturday dressed as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, bringing back his Halloween tradition before the San Antonio Spurs took on the Minnesota Timberwolves. This isn’t just some random costume; Wembanyama is seriously into it.
Geralt Returns, and It’s No Joke
Wemby clearly has a thing for the fantasy world. Geralt of Rivia, for those who don’t know, is the protagonist from The Witcher, which ESPN’s Michael C. Wright reports is Wembanyama’s favorite book series. This isn’t a new habit for the big man either. He’s previously celebrated Halloween by showing up to games in costume in each of his first two NBA seasons. The only reason we didn’t see him in costume last year, in 2025, is because the Spurs didn’t even play on the holiday. So yeah, the return of the costume tradition? That’s a big deal for him, and for anyone following his antics.
The Numbers Don’t Lie: Wemby Is Dominant
But let’s be real, while the costumes are fun, what truly matters is what Wembanyama is doing on the court. And spoiler alert: it’s absolutely insane. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year isn’t just playing around; he has remained dominant on both ends of the floor to open his 2026-27 campaign. We’re talking about a stat line that’s hard to believe: he’s averaging 25.0 points, 11.4 rebounds, and a ridiculous 3.8 blocks per game. Add in that he’s shooting 48.0 percent from the field, and you realize this guy is a force. He’s not just a defensive anchor, he’s a two-way monster putting up MVP-caliber numbers from the jump.
The Spurs were set to face the Timberwolves on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. When you combine that kind of on-court dominance with the sheer personality to show up as Geralt, you’ve got a player who’s not just a star, but a genuine spectacle. We’re all watching to see what magic he pulls off next.
