FC Bayern Munich rolls into the Black Forest this Sunday, sitting atop the Bundesliga with 14 points, but the real story isn’t their thrashing of RB Leipzig 6-1 a few weeks back. No, the real story is who is *not* showing up for this Matchday 7 showdown against SC Freiburg, and what that means for their grip on first place.
Kompany Out, Danks In, Stars On The Sidelines
The Bavarian giants are in absolute turmoil behind the scenes. Head Coach Vincent Kompany is hospitalized, forcing Aaron Danks to step into the hot seat. That alone would be a massive curveball, but it gets worse. A full lineup of key players, including Musiala, Luis Díaz, Neuer, Minjae Kim, and Kimmich, are all unavailable for the match. That’s not just a couple of starters, that’s practically half a squad missing, and it leaves Danks with a massive hole to fill against a red-hot opponent.
Freiburg’s Undefeated Fortress and Title Ambitions
Waiting for this depleted Bayern side is Julian Schuster’s SC Freiburg, currently third in the league with 13 points. They are absolutely flying at home, winning all five of their matches there this season. They have that home field advantage humming, and you know they are salivating at the chance to bounce back from their recent defeats and leapfrog Bayern for the top spot. Freiburg is determined to claim the top spot in German football, and they couldn’t ask for a more vulnerable Bayern to try and do it against.
This Sunday isn’t just another Matchday 7 game; it’s a massive moment for both teams. Can Danks cobble together a winning lineup with so many key players out and keep Bayern at the top, or will Schuster’s Freiburg capitalize on the chaos and make a huge statement for the Bundesliga title race? All eyes will be on the Black Forest to see if Bayern can hold on, or if Freiburg can seize their moment and climb to first place.
