Portsmouth High School Unified soccer closed out their season Wednesday, October 21, with a massive 5-3 victory over Salem, capped by an absolutely wild performance from Dashiell Swanson, who not only bagged three goals but also stood tall in net. What a way to finish, right? This team wasn’t just playing for pride, they were playing like they wanted one more shot, and they left it all on the field.
Swanson Lights Up the Scoreboard, Locks Down the Net
Can we talk about Dashiell Swanson for a minute? This kid was everywhere! He wasn’t just scoring, he was *dominating*. A hat trick, that’s three goals people, against Salem, in the final game of the season. But get this: Swanson also pulled double duty, putting in a strong performance in goal alongside Eryx Grant. Talk about versatility! Not many players can carry the offense and then turn around and be a brick wall when the ball comes their way. Hudson Norris also stepped up big time, netting two goals himself to round out Portsmouth’s scoring. Five goals, two strong goalies, and an absolute statement win. You gotta love it.
Coach Rogers is Hyped, and So Are We
Coach Bryan Rogers captured the feeling perfectly after the final whistle. “Ending the season with a game like this always leaves you wanting more,” he said, and you can feel that energy. The team has clearly grown throughout the last few months, evolving into a truly cohesive unit. That’s the stuff that makes a team special, the kind of bond you forge through every practice and every game. For Rogers to say everyone wanted “one more game to keep it going” after a season-ending win tells you everything you need to know about the passion and heart of this squad. They finished their season with a 2-1-2 record, a solid showing that absolutely ended on the highest note possible.
While the season might be over for Portsmouth Unified, this win, especially Swanson’s unbelievable performance, gives us plenty to chew on. It’s the kind of game that builds momentum, even if it’s for next year. What an incredible display of talent and teamwork to send them off. We’ll be thinking about this one for a while, and honestly, we’re already hyped to see what this group brings next time they hit the pitch!
