The Boston Celtics just wrapped up their second day of training camp at the Auerbach Center, and if the early word from offseason addition Mike Conley Jr. is anything to go by, things are looking seriously good for the C’s. Conley Jr., a veteran guard, isn’t just settling in; he’s absolutely buzzing about his new squad after his first Joe Mazzulla practice.
Conley Jr. Calls Out The New Talent
Conley Jr. didn’t mince words, he came right out and said, “There’s a lot more talent in here than I ever thought.” That’s a huge statement from a guy who’s seen a lot of locker rooms. He didn’t stop there, either. He went on to highlight some key guys already making waves. Baylor, Sam, Peyton, and Ron all got shout-outs for impressing him. He even specifically mentioned Ron’s strong summer and his continued excellent play early in camp. Conley Jr. truly believes it’s “a really cool collection of guys, and all have a unique skill set and very high Q basketball players, and just going out there trying to win.” You gotta love that kind of early camp energy!
What’s The Buzz & What’s At Stake?
Beyond Conley Jr.’s rave reviews, the overall vibe from Celtics camp is positive. Beat reporters Brian Robb and Souichi Terada have been breaking down all the action, zeroing in on things like Paul George’s role, the team’s mindset without Jaylen Brown, and how they’re planning out the center rotation. With the team already listed at +233 to win the Atlantic Division on Kalshi, these early impressions are critical. Every single practice, every single player impression, it all feeds into what this team is going to be when the real games tip off. Can this “collection of guys” live up to Conley Jr.’s high praise and those division odds? We’re about to find out.
