Ahmed Hassanein, the preseason fan favorite, is a healthy scratch for the Detroit Lions’ Week 7 clash against their divisional rival Green Bay Packers. This marks his *sixth* game this season watching from the sidelines, a tough pill for anyone hoping to see the young EDGE rusher on the field. Even with some cryptic social media posts floating around, Hassanein will have to wait another week to find the field.
Lions’ Sideline Sitters
The Lions have made their inactive declarations, and it means five players on their 53-man roster won’t be suiting up today, leaving 48 eligible to play. Joining Hassanein on the inactive list are tight end Jackson Meeks, center Seth McLaughlin, defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo, and safety Bishop Fitzgerald. It is Hassanein’s status as a healthy scratch, though, that has fans talking. The guy was a preseason standout, and to be riding the pine this much, especially when he is not dealing with an injury, has gotta be frustrating for him and for those who wanted to see him unleashed.
Packers’ Missing Pieces
Over on the other side of the field, the Green Bay Packers have their own list of inactives. Linebacker Zaire Franklin is out with a shin injury, a status that was confirmed on Friday. He is joined by running back Kaleb Johnson, offensive linemen Jager Burton, Donovan Jennings, and Kevin Zeitler, along with cornerback Benjamin St-Juste. Losing Franklin, especially, could be a real hit for the Packers’ defense, given that he was ruled out well in advance.
It is Week 7, and these divisional matchups always hit different. Both teams have to adjust to who is in and who is out. For the Lions, the question around Hassanein will likely continue to linger, but for today, it is all about the guys who are strapping up and getting ready to fight for that win against a fierce rival.
