The regular season might be over for High Desert football, but the weekly staff picks just threw us a curveball headed right for the playoffs. We’re talking a full-blown reset! All five pickers are now starting fresh at 0-0 in a separate competition specifically for the CIF-Southern Section playoffs. While Jose Quintero still holds his impressive overall lead, this new playoff-only race means everyone gets a clean slate to challenge for postseason bragging rights.
Quintero’s Dominant Regular Season Run
Let’s be real, Jose Quintero had a killer regular season. He wrapped things up with a phenomenal 96-19 record, putting him three full games ahead of Todd Hadler, who finished strong at 93-22. That kind of lead doesn’t just happen, it takes serious dedication and, well, good picks!
Our other pickers weren’t slacking either. HD Football Report came in third with an 87-28 record, followed closely by James Quigg at 85-30. Jason Reed rounded out the group with a 79-36 finish. Those are solid numbers, but Quintero really set the bar high for everyone.
Playoff Picks: A Fresh Start for Everyone
Now, with the CIF-Southern Section playoffs kicking off, everything changes. The overall standings, with Quintero at the top, will keep running. But this new playoff-only competition? It’s a clean slate. Every picker starts at 0-0, meaning the pressure is on Quintero to not only protect that three-game overall lead but also prove he’s the top dog when it truly matters in the postseason. Can he keep up the momentum when everyone is gunning for that new 0-0 record?
We’ll be tracking the leaderboard every single week throughout the playoffs, all the way until we crown a champion or there are no local teams left vying for a CIF-Southern Section title. Who do you think will come out on top in this new playoff bracket? We want to hear your takes!
