Angel Reese dropped a monster 21 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals to drive the Atlanta Dream to a huge 97-71 home win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Wednesday evening, giving her team a crucial 2-1 series lead. After the game, she unleashed a quote that tells you everything about the Dream’s Finals run.
Reese’s Mindset: Pure Contagious Confidence
Lindsay Gibbs from CBS Sports asked Reese about her growth as a leader this season and how the team was absolutely feeding off her energy in Game 3. Reese’s response? It’s pure gold. She said her mindset has been about showing up every day and being consistent for the team, no matter if her shots are falling. “I just want to make sure I bring energy,” Reese stated, emphasizing her goal to “pour into everybody, bring the energy, bring the morale, because I think it’s contagious.” She’s talking about a mentality that started with her, being “hype all the time,” and injecting that confidence into the whole squad. Her direct challenge to the Valkyries was clear: “y’all not taking this from us. And in my heart, I’m not letting you take this from us, and it becomes contagious within the team. They feel that confidence too. So that’s kind of been my mindset throughout the entire season, just being able to want it more than anybody else.” Talk about a battle cry!
Dream Rallies After Game 1 Setback
Atlanta’s Finals started tough, dropping Game 1 in a defensive slugfest, 68-64. But since then, the Dream have absolutely refused to let Golden State take another one. They’ve rallied for two massive wins, and Reese has been at the center of it all. In Game 2, she went off for an insane 30 points and 16 rebounds in a 79-65 victory. Then in Game 3, Atlanta did not let the Valkyries anywhere near that win, outscoring them 51-31 in the second half. Reese was just incredible on both ends of the court, shooting 7-of-12 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, all while helping keep Golden State to a measly 34.7 percent shooting. That’s called walking the talk, folks!
The Dream are looking to take a commanding 3-1 series lead this Saturday when they face Golden State again at 1 p.m. ET in State Farm Arena. With Reese’s mindset leading the charge, expect nothing less than maximum effort and that contagious confidence to be absolutely pouring out of the Atlanta squad.
