The Baltimore Ravens, sitting at a precarious 4-4 record, just pulled the trigger on a trade for veteran Jacoby Brissett, desperately trying to salvage what began as a dream season.
The Dream That Turned Into a Nightmare
Man, what a gut punch for the Ravens. This season started with so much promise, right? Zay Flowers, Lamar Jackson, and Derrick Henry were on fire, and everyone was dreaming of Flowers becoming a top-five receiver, with Henry just laughing off Father Time. But then, BAM. A hamstring injury for Flowers. Then the QB chaos. First Lamar Jackson, then Snoop Huntley, then Lamar again, all going down with injuries.
Now, Huntley is done for the season with a turf toe injury. And Jackson? He is on IR with a thumb issue that needed surgery, and yeah, that could totally end his season too. Talk about a nightmare. All those high hopes for Flowers and Henry, just vanished into thin air.
Can Brissett Revive This Offense?
But the Ravens, credit where it’s due, they are not throwing in the towel. After losing both Jackson and Huntley on Sunday, they went out and traded for Brissett. Now, yeah, he recently got benched by the Cardinals. Not exactly lighting the world on fire there, right?
But let’s not forget, this is the same Jacoby Brissett who, in the past, has shown he can actually keep fantasy stars not just afloat, but help them hit their weekly ceilings. Remember Trey McBride and Michael Wilson? Brissett was throwing them the ball when they rose up as weekly fantasy starters. And let’s be real, the Ravens are a way better-run system than the Cardinals. Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle’s system has already proven it’s a boon for Flowers and Henry, no matter if Jackson or Huntley was under center.
So, can Brissett reignite this offense? He won’t be able to help this week, though, since the deal won’t be final before Baltimore hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. Rookie Joe Fagnano will get the nod at QB for that one. But man, here’s hoping Brissett can tap into that “let it fly” mentality and turn things around for this talented, fantasy-friendly Ravens offense.
