Deniz Undav, VfB Stuttgart’s attacking maestro, is apparently taking the field with what Sky reporter Philipp Hinze has officially dubbed the smallest shin pads in the entire Bundesliga. Seriously, this guy is out there risking it all, and it’s wild.
The “Bus Ticket” Defense
During Sky’s pre-match coverage before Stuttgart’s clash with Werder Bremen, Hinze got a close look at the team’s equipment, and Undav’s pads stood out. They are barely bigger and almost as thin as a folded bus ticket. You read that right. We are talking minimal protection here for a player who, as an attacker, naturally takes a ton of kicks. It makes you wonder what he’s thinking.
Safety First? Not for Undav!
The contrast is truly something else. While his teammate Atakan Karazor is rocking conventional equipment, putting safety first like any normal player, Undav’s gear makes Karazor’s look like overkill. The reporter even went so far as to compare Undav’s pads to an amateur-league equivalent, saying a cardboard chip tray in the lower leagues actually offers more comprehensive coverage. Undav has apparently decided that extra precautions are completely unnecessary, choosing to play on the absolute edge. Talk about a statement.
