Matthew Stafford just dropped a bombshell, explaining the real secret behind his insane no-look passes. The Los Angeles Rams quarterback revealed Monday on The Pat McAfee Show that those trick throws? They were born out of pure necessity, a way to totally fool defenses that knew he wanted to laser the ball to Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson. Talk about a legendary assist!
The Genesis of the Magic
Stafford has actually talked about this before, way back in 2020. He said he simply started messing around with it in walkthroughs, having some fun in practice, and then just took it straight into games. For Stafford, it is not some rehearsed play call. He says it is natural, something that just happens instinctively, reacting to what the defense is doing in the middle of a play. And he gets better at it as he goes. That is just pure, unadulterated talent right there.
Beyond the Flash: The Baseball Edge
Now, Stafford is not the *only* NFL quarterback who can pull off a successful no-look pass. But let’s be real, it is a seriously exclusive club. One of his most iconic deceptive throws? That came in Super Bowl LVI, where he absolutely froze Cincinnati Bengals safety Vonn Bell, firing a perfect completion to Cooper Kupp over the middle. Stafford also shared back in 2020 that his baseball background played a huge role in his game, teaching him how to throw from all sorts of arm angles. That unique skill set has definitely helped him stand out from the crowd. With guys like Stafford and Patrick Mahomes making these no-look throws famous, you know we are gonna see a whole lot more imitators in the years to come.
Speaking of legendary plays, today was a huge one for our boys! The Seattle Seahawks absolutely rocked the Kansas City Chiefs, walking away with a dominant 20-3 victory. What a W for the Emerald City!
