Former Washington Huskies standout Denzel Boston is absolutely balling out for the Cleveland Browns. For the third time already in his rookie season, he led his team in receiving on Thursday night, driving the Browns to a clutch 27-24 win over their AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. This dude is proving he’s built different, no doubt about it.
Boston’s Explosive Playmaking Ignites Cleveland’s Offense
Boston is a big-play threat, plain and simple. Thursday night, he snagged 4 catches for 89 yards on seven targets. The highlight, no doubt, was that ridiculous 60-yard reception in the second quarter. He nearly took it to the house, getting caught just inside the Pittsburgh 15-yard line. What happened next? That explosive play set up a Cleveland touchdown, giving the Browns their first lead of the game, a lead they held for pretty much the rest of the contest.
It’s not just a one-game thing either. Boston was already ranked third in the NFL in yards per catch at 21.7 coming into this matchup, trailing only Romeo Doubs of the Patriots and Zay Flowers from the Ravens. After dropping 22.3 yards per catch on the Steelers, he’s absolutely gonna stay at the top of that leaderboard through the first quarter of the regular season. And he isn’t the only rookie receiver flashing, either. No. 24 overall pick KC Concepcion, out of Texas A&M, also had a big night with 5 catches for 64 yards. Concepcion led the team with eight targets, just ahead of Boston and running back Quinshon Judkins, who each had seven. This passing game is taking a serious leap, especially with QB Deshaun Watson’s resurgence after their Week One loss.
Three Straight Wins And Sitting On Top
Talk about a turnaround! What looked like it might be another long season in the Rock and Roll Capital of the World has flipped completely. The Browns have ripped off three wins in a row and are sitting pretty atop the AFC North as we head into Sunday. First-year head coach Todd Monken has these guys rolling.
Next up, Cleveland is heading to New York to face the Jets. It’s a huge opportunity for this offense, with Boston leading the charge, to keep building that momentum and show the league they’re for real.
