The curse of the short week has absolutely hammered our Seahawks, and we’re heading into Thursday’s Denver Broncos showdown without one of our starting linebackers. Head Coach Mike Macdonald officially ruled out linebacker Drake Thomas, running back Zach Charbonnet, and linebacker Chazz Surratt on Wednesday. This stings, especially with Thomas having emerged as Ernest Jones IV’s partner in crime back in 2025.

The Linebacker Hole

Thomas is sidelined with an ankle injury, which he picked up late in the second quarter during last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. With him out, Coach Macdonald confirmed the team will be leaning on Tyrice Knight, our 2024 fourth-round pick. Knight, who came out of UTEP, has seen some time in the starting lineup over his three years with the Hawks, but he hasn’t exactly found his rhythm much lately, recording just one tackle in 2026. Plus, Chazz Surratt, who’s mostly a special teams guy, is out too. It wouldn’t be a shocker to see us elevate wide receiver Irv Charles from the practice squad to help bolster that unit and give us some much-needed flexibility.

The Running Back Rollercoaster

Meanwhile, Zach Charbonnet is still deep in his ACL rehab and won’t be back for this pivotal game against the Broncos. Man, was he ever missed last week against the 49ers! We really need a bounce-back week from Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani, who both struggled to get anything going in that last game. To shore things up, the Seahawks did add Velus Jones Jr. to the active roster on Wednesday, so he appears to be another running back option. There’s a little light at the end of the tunnel though: ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported there’s a “legitimate chance” Charbonnet could return in Week 7. Please, let that be true!

We’re heading to Denver mostly healthy otherwise, looking to get back on track this Thursday at 5:15 p.m. PT. It’s a tough road game, but our guys need to step up. Fingers crossed for Wilson and Holani, and that Charbonnet news for Week 7 better be real! Go Hawks!
