Paris Saint-Germain absolutely tore through Villarreal, hitting them for four goals in just 17 minutes during their Champions League clash on Tuesday. The defending champions went into El Madrigal missing some serious firepower, but it clearly didn’t matter, as they steamrolled the Yellow Submarine right from the whistle.
Villarreal’s Defense: An Absolute Disaster Class
This match was a total mismatch, and Villarreal’s defending was, well, dreadful. PSG took full advantage, lighting up the scoreboard in an incredible eight-minute burst. Joao Neves kicked things off in the 9th minute, poking home a loose ball after missing the initial corner. Just three minutes later, in the 12th, Desire Doue added a second. Senny Mayulu piled on a minute after that, and Fabian Ruiz slammed one home in the 17th minute. Talk about a whirlwind! The crazy part? Those last three goals all came from Villarreal’s own blunders, either trying to play out from the back or getting completely dispossessed in their own half. You just can’t make those kinds of mistakes against a team like PSG and expect to survive.
Short-Handed, But Still Dominant: PSG’s Unstoppable Run
Even with four of their best players sidelined, PSG looked completely unfazed. Ousmane Dembele, Marquinhos, and Nuno Mendes were out with thigh injuries, plus long-term absentee Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is still recovering from a ruptured ACL. This was supposed to be a real test of their squad depth, but they passed with flying colors. PSG, who started this fourth round of games sitting pretty at first place in the standings, is now cruising toward a mind-blowing 10th straight win across all competitions. This team is just built different.
The defending champions are just flat-out dominant, even with key players out. It’s clear their form is just ridiculous right now.
