Fresno City College Rams just pulled off a wild 24-17 win against Modesto on Saturday afternoon, and it completely changed the league standings. This wasn’t some easy cruise, either. The Rams stared down a deficit in the fourth quarter and still fought their way to the top spot, now tied with Modesto for the lead.
The Fourth Quarter Fight Back That Blew Up The Game
Things looked dicey for the Rams heading into the final quarter, down 17-14. But that’s when their special teams and defense absolutely went off. Aiden Chavez forced a fumble, and Geremy Molett scooped it up, putting Fresno City in prime position to strike. And strike they did! Kicker Jared Roberts was ice-cold, stepping up and tying the game with a clutch field goal. Seriously, that’s the kind of pressure moment that separates the contenders from everyone else.
One Yard From Glory: Special Teams Delivers The KO
After that field goal, Fresno City’s defense locked Modesto down and got the ball back, but the offense couldn’t move it. So they had to punt, and what happened next was pure genius. Roberts, not just a kicker but a punter too, pinned the Pirates deep at their own one-yard line. The defense knew exactly what to do with that kind of field position. On the very next play, they popped the ball loose again, and Tana Togafau-Tavui was right there to fall on it for what had to be the easiest, and most important, touchdown of his life. That score gave the Rams the lead. Modesto tried to drive back, but a batted ball with triple zeroes on the clock sealed this crucial league win for FCC.
What a statement! The Rams are now 8-5 on the season and sitting tied atop the league standings with Modesto, both at 5-1. This win isn’t just a notch in the win column, it’s a massive momentum swing for Fresno City as they look to build on this incredible fourth-quarter comeback. What a game to be at!
