Javonte Williams just dropped a career-high three touchdowns on Sunday, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a wild 34-30 comeback win against their in-state rival Houston Texans. Yeah, you heard that right, three scores! This dude absolutely balled out when Dallas needed it most.
From Rookie Star to Comeback King: Williams’ Wild Ride
Man, Williams has had a journey, hasn’t he? Drafted 35th overall way back in 2021, the former UNC standout exploded onto the scene with Denver, putting up nearly 1,000 yards in his rookie year and looking like a future centerpiece. Then, BAM, a torn ACL cut his sophomore season short, and he struggled to get that same spark back for a while. It was tough to watch, you know? But last season, something clicked. He left Denver after four years and signed a 1-year deal with America’s Team for the 2025-26 season. And what a deal it was! He put up career-bests with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, even snagging the league’s first regular-season score. That’s a serious bounce-back right there.
Sunday’s Stunt Show and What It Means for Dallas
So, fast forward to Sunday, and Williams wasn’t just good, he was *the* guy. He racked up the Cowboys’ first three touchdowns, grinding out one-yard, two-yard, and eight-yard scores on his way to 19 carries for 62 yards. Yeah, the 3.3 yards per carry wasn’t eye-popping, but when you’re punching it in from goal line situations like that, who cares about the average? CeeDee Lamb then sealed the deal with a 12-yard pass from Dak Prescott. This performance wasn’t just a flash in the pan either. Williams is now in the first campaign of his new, shiny 3-year deal, and after a game like that, he looks exactly like the star running back Dallas was banking on when they signed him last offseason. He’s proving every doubter wrong, showing everyone that the vision Dallas had for him is absolutely real.
This kind of explosive comeback from Williams is exactly what Dallas needs as the season rolls on. With him looking every bit the star they envisioned, the Cowboys are gonna be a force to reckon with. You gotta believe they are fired up about this one, and honestly, so should everyone else!
