The Kansas City Chiefs just got absolutely walloped by YOUR Seattle Seahawks in Week 8, ending the game 20-3 in our favor. After a tight matchup, our Hawks walked away with a dominant performance that proved we are for real. While our boys were out there laying the smack down on Kansas City, around the league, Week 7 had some top receivers looking pretty rough, and a lot of folks are wondering if they can turn it around for Week 8.
Panthers’ Receivers Look to Beat the Pressure
Over in Carolina, Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker, both ranked in the top 24 for receivers in Week 7, severely disappointed. The Panthers’ offense was straight up overwhelmed by the pressure Tampa Bay put on Bryce Young, and Young responded very poorly. But don’t give up on these guys just yet. Young has faced similar pressure all season, and usually, he beats it by hitting McMillan and Coker with deep shots. Sure, in Week 7 he found Darren Waller for a 50-yard touchdown instead of his usual targets, but you can’t bet on that happening again. Our early projections still have McMillan and Coker as top 12 receivers, making them as close to “must-start” as you can get.
Steelers’ Targets Shrink as Others Rise
The situation in Pittsburgh was a whole different story. The Saints barely put up a fight against the Steelers’ defense or their running backs. This meant fewer pass attempts from Aaron Rodgers and, you guessed it, fewer targets for Germie Bernard. There is a slight concern this could repeat in Week 8, especially with the Browns’ pass defense showing up much better than their run defense, and Pittsburgh’s offense being spotty at best. Still, Bernard managed to crack the top 24. Things could shift though, as DJ Moore or Emeka Egbuka might jump ahead of Bernard by Wednesday night. Plus, seven other receivers are within two points of Bernard in projections, so if you want to swap him out, no one would blame you. Rookie KC Concepcion, especially, had his coming-out party in Week 7, making him a hot name right now.
Looking at some other numbers around the league: Zay Flowers leads all qualified receivers with a massive 3.73 yards per route run. If Lamar Jackson is fully healthy, Flowers could absolutely make a run at being a WR2 for the rest of the season. Omar Cooper Jr. is doing even better, a full yard per route run better than Flowers at 4.77, though on a smaller sample size. DJ Moore, when he’s on the field, commands a 28.2 percent target per route run rate, making him a must-start if he’s back in Week 8. Matthew Golden has a rough 10.3 percent drop rate, but it has not impacted his target share yet. Michael Wilson leads all receivers with nine targets inside the 10-yard line, but he has only caught one of them, so you know some regression has got to be coming. And then there’s Denzel Boston, whose 16.62 aDOT is too high for a reliable fantasy receiver, but it is perfect for a boom/bust flex play.
What a day for the Emerald City! Our Hawks absolutely showed up in Week 8, putting Kansas City in their place with that 20-3 victory. We’ve got to savor this win, soak it all in. While the rest of the league is dealing with receiver drama and bounce-back bids, Mike Macdonald’s squad just keeps stacking those Ws. Keep an eye on those other WRs to see if they can turn their seasons around, but for now, let’s keep riding this high, Seattle!
