Kate Del Fava Is Going From U23 To Face #1 Ranked Spain, And That’s Her ‘Biggest Dream Come True’

Alright, the U.S. Women’s National Team just made a big move, with head coach Emma Hayes officially calling up Utah Royals defender Kate Del Fava. She’s stepping in to replace the injured Naomi Girma right before the squad gears up to take on the No. 1 ranked Spain. Talk about being thrown into the fire!

From U23 Camp to the National Stage

This isn’t just any call-up; Del Fava is coming straight from the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team. The coolest part? She was *already* set to travel to Atlanta on Monday as an “overage” player for that U23 training camp. That camp is running at the same time as Hayes’ senior team camp, both down at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center. So, what’s her big change of plans? She just gets to switch hotels. Seriously, how wild is that for a Monday morning? Del Fava herself posted on Instagram, calling it her “Biggest dream come true.” You just love to see it for a player putting in the work.

A Club Star on the Rise

It’s not like Del Fava is a stranger to the pitch, though. This Utah Royals FC star has been absolutely grinding, playing every single minute for her club since re-joining them in 2024. That kind of consistency is just unreal. And get this: her team, the URFC, is actually on the verge of making history. They’re looking to book their first-ever NWSL playoff spot. So, she’s not just a talented player, she’s a crucial part of a team pushing for something big, which tells you everything you need to know about her game.

Now, she’s got to switch gears, grab that USWNT jersey, and prepare for arguably one of the toughest tests in international soccer. The USWNT facing off against the No. 1 ranked Spain is going to be must-watch soccer, and Kate Del Fava’s unexpected journey into the lineup just adds another layer of excitement. Keep your eyes peeled to see what this rising star brings to the big stage.
