The New York Knicks are already flexing on the league, ready to hand out special championship t-shirts to fans as they kick off their 2026-27 season on Tuesday night. Forget easing into the year, the Knicks are celebrating their 2026 NBA title right from the jump at Madison Square Garden, making a statement before the ball even tips off.
The Celebration Hits Different When LeBron’s In Town
This isn’t just any regular season opener; it’s a full-on championship celebration. Fans hitting up MSG for Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers are getting special t-shirts to commemorate the Knicks’ 2026 NBA title, their first since way back in 1973. That’s a long time coming, and they earned it by taking down the San Antonio Spurs in five games, with our guy Jalen Brunson snagging Finals MVP honors. But the real kicker? They’re doing this *before* playing a new-look Sixers squad that’s now led by star forward LeBron James. Talk about a fiery welcome back to the court for the defending champs and a stark reminder for their opponent.
Brunson’s Vow: “No Relaxation Whatsoever”
If you thought winning it all would make the Knicks complacent, Jalen Brunson is here to set you straight. He told reporters on Monday that “There’s no relaxation whatsoever.” That’s the kind of fire you want from your Finals MVP, making it clear this team isn’t losing an ounce of motivation. The energy needs to be through the roof at MSG, not just for the t-shirt giveaway, but to set the tone against LeBron and the new-look Sixers. The Knicks are hungry, and they want to start this year on the perfect foot. They’ve got the hardware, but they’re still playing like they’ve got something to prove.
