Absolutely no MLB playoff games are scheduled for tonight, Friday, October 9th. It’s a rare day off smack dab in the middle of the postseason, serving up an unexpected curveball for baseball fans. But don’t get too comfortable, because the action is about to explode again this weekend, especially with one American League Division Series still hanging by a thread!
NLDS Wrapped Up Fast, Chourio Delivered Big
The reason for tonight’s unexpected pause? Both National League Division Series matchups wrapped up quicker than expected. The Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers both closed out their series in four games. No dramatic Game 5s needed in the NL, so those teams are getting some well-deserved rest before the NL Championship Series rematch kicks off.
We can’t forget the magic from Brewers left fielder Jackson Chourio, though! This guy came up huge in Game 2 of their NLDS against the San Diego Padres. On Sunday, October 4th, he ripped a game-winning two-run single in the ninth inning that sealed a tight 4-3 victory for Milwaukee at American Family Field. Talk about clutch in October!
ALDS Gridlock: Road Teams Are Totally Dominating
While the NL is hitting the brakes, the American League is still sorting things out, and man, is it a wild one! Only the Cleveland Guardians-Chicago White Sox Division Series remains, and it’s been pure road-team chaos. Get this: the road team has won all four games in that series so far! That’s insane! It’s been back-and-forth, with no team able to defend their home turf. The Tampa Bay Rays are chilling, waiting to see who emerges from that absolute slugfest.
So, clear your plans for Saturday night, October 10th. That’s when these two AL Central rivals will finally finish their series in Cleveland. Given how the road teams have been playing, who even knows what’s going to happen? You know it’s going to be a must-watch decider.
After that, it’s full steam ahead into the NL Championship Series rematch. So, enjoy the quiet night, because playoff baseball is coming back with a vengeance!
