Jeremiah Hammond exploded for 17 points, leading Northern Colorado to a dominant 117-64 victory over Colorado College on Monday. This wasn’t just a win, folks, it was an absolute statement to kick off the season.
Hammond’s Hot Start Leads the Charge
The Bears’ offense was clicking, plain and simple. Hammond was lights out, shooting 5 for 9 from the field, absolutely draining it from deep with 3 for 5 from 3-point range, and staying steady at the charity stripe, hitting 4 of 5 free throws. He was a force! But he wasn’t alone in lighting up the scoreboard. Chiante Tramble added 13 points himself, going 5 of 8 from the field and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line. And not to be forgotten, Hunter Caldwell also finished strong with 12 points. When you’ve got multiple guys hitting double digits with that kind of efficiency, you know it’s gonna be a long night for the opposition.
Colorado College Fought, But It Wasn’t Enough
Look, the Tigers had some guys trying to make plays and putting in the effort. Nick Brashear led them in scoring, finishing with 13 points and even grabbing two steals. Bryson Gaines chipped in with 12 points, and Christian Drummond added 11 points for Colorado College. But when the other side is dropping 117 points, it’s just an uphill battle the entire way. That’s a tough opening night to face an offensive explosion like that.
What’s next for Northern Colorado? They’re heading to Arizona State for their next matchup on Friday. After a performance like this, the question on everyone’s mind is, can they carry that offensive firepower on the road? Arizona State better be ready, because this Bears team just showed they can put up points in a hurry. We’ll be watching to see if this early season explosion is the real deal.
