Braylon Sherwood, the 6-foot-6 shooting guard who absolutely lit up the court in West Hills, California, announced on social media this Tuesday, Oct. 6, that he is officially transferring to Iowa City West. This isn’t just some casual move, folks. We’re talking about a serious talent, and the implications for Iowa City West are massive.
The Numbers Don’t Lie: Sherwood Is a Certified Baller
Look, you don’t get ranked without backing it up, right? Prephoop.com has Sherwood pegged as the No. 9 player in all of Southern California for the Class of 2029. That’s a big deal. This isn’t some project player; this kid is coming in with a reputation. When you see rankings like that, you know he’s already got the skills to make a difference on the court. He’s been putting in the work, even playing for EYBL Vegas Elite over the summer. That’s big-time circuit play, honing his game against some of the best young talent out there.
Freshman Year Was Just a Warm-Up
If you want to know what Sherwood can do, check out his freshman season. He balled out, averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game across 22 contests. He wasn’t shy about shooting either, putting up 279 total points. His efficiency? Pretty darn good for a freshman: 45% from the field and 33% from downtown. Those are solid numbers that show he can score, rebound, and contribute across the board. Imagine what he’s going to do once he gets fully settled in a new system. The potential is through the roof.
Immediate Impact? You Bet.
Here’s the kicker and why this transfer is such a game-changer: Iowa City West athletics director BJ Mayor confirmed that Sherwood is immediately eligible to start participating in basketball activities. Immediately eligible! That means no waiting period, no sitting out a season. He can jump right into practices and be ready to hit the court with his new team. This isn’t a future promise; it’s an immediate upgrade for Iowa City West. Get ready to see this kid making plays for his new squad. The rest of the high school hoops world better be paying attention, because Braylon Sherwood just arrived.
