Shakur Stevenson is officially out at Zuffa Boxing, ending his contract after a shockingly short three months. The boxing world definitely didn’t see this coming so fast, especially after he signed back in July, with his last fight being all the way back in January.
Stevenson Drops the Bombshell on YouTube
The news broke directly from Stevenson himself. He announced his departure from Zuffa on his YouTube channel Monday, a move that Ring Magazine’s Matt Penn quickly picked up on. You have to wonder what went down for things to end so abruptly after such a brief partnership. It feels like a quick exit for someone of his caliber.
“Fights I Was Told Would Happen But Have Not Happened”
Stevenson didn’t hold back on why he decided to split. “I’ve been working my ass off, staying focused, I’ve been in camp for eight weeks preparing for fights I was told would happen but have not happened,” he said. That’s a brutal statement from a fighter ready to get in the ring. He’s not mad, though, calling it “the business of boxing.” He put in the request to be released from Zuffa Boxing, and over the weekend, his wish was granted. It really highlights the frustration of a fighter putting in the grind for nothing.
So, just three months after signing, Shakur Stevenson is a free agent again, citing fights that never materialized despite his intense preparation. It’s a quick turnaround for a big name, and it leaves you wondering what’s next for him in the volatile world of professional boxing.
