Tyrese Maxey just landed at No. 12 on HoopsHype’s list of the top 100 players for the upcoming 2027 season, and if that doesn’t scream “championship run” for the Philadelphia 76ers, I don’t know what does. This franchise is absolutely locked in on ending some long droughts, making huge additions to the roster, and it’s clear Maxey is gonna be the guy leading the charge.
The Numbers Don’t Lie on Maxey’s Rise
Maxey isn’t just getting buzz, he’s earned that ranking with straight-up ridiculous play. Last season, the guy averaged 28.3 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 70 games. Think about that for a second! He was an All-Star for the second time in his career, taking a massive leap in his development. We’re talking fifth in points per game in the league, 22nd in assists, and a top-10 finish at 10th in steals per game. That’s a triple threat showing up on the stat sheet across the board.
Maxey’s Game Is Built for This Moment
It’s not just the stats either, it’s *how* he plays. This former Kentucky standout is lightning-quick, whether he’s flying in the open floor or carving up a defense in the halfcourt. That elite first step, the fantastic burst, and a tidy crossover? Dude’s a nightmare for defenders, pure and simple. Maxey’s got top-notch three-level scoring ability, using his speed to get to the basket and his athleticism to finish through traffic. And if you sag off him, forget about it: he’s pulling up and hitting jumpers off the dribble like it’s nothing. He’s absolutely the leader of this squad, even with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown coming aboard, and Joel Embiid back healthy. He’s *the* guy.
The Sixers open their season on Tuesday, hitting the road to face off against the defending champion New York Knicks. Talk about a statement game right out of the gate. With Maxey playing at this level and ranked among the league’s elite, every game from here on out is about that championship goal.
