UMass football is riding a shocking 4-0 start into their first home sellout since 2014 this Saturday, and honestly, nobody saw this coming. It’s an absolutely wild ride for a program everyone slept on, and now McGuirk Alumni Stadium is about to be packed to the rafters.
The Minutemen Are Undefeated and Stunned College Football
What a turnaround! UMass has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 college football season. Most folks probably figured this team was just going to be an easy win for opponents, but guess what? They’re 4-0! Head coach Joe Harasymiak, only in his second year leading the squad, has these guys absolutely buzzing. They kicked off the season with a massive 37-21 upset over Rutgers in Week 1, which honestly, sent shockwaves through the league. Since then, they’ve kept that momentum rolling, taking down Sacred Heart, Stonehill, and Sacramento State. This team is playing with a fire that’s impossible to ignore.
“Pop” Watson III Is Unleashing Chaos On The Field
A huge part of this insane start is the play of quarterback William “Pop” Watson III. This dude is straight-up electric. He didn’t get this kind of opportunity at Virginia Tech, but he’s making the absolute most of it now, tearing it up for UMass. Through four games, Watson has already thrown for 610 yards, racked up six touchdowns, and only tossed one interception. But wait, there’s more! He’s a beast on the ground too, running for 154 yards and scoring four more touchdowns with his legs. Talk about a dual threat, right? He’s making plays all over the field, and it’s a blast to watch.
This Saturday, UMass tries to make it five wins in a row to open the season, and it’s going to be absolutely nuts. Over 17,000 fans are expected to be screaming their heads off inside McGuirk Alumni Stadium when the Minutemen take on Eastern Michigan. That’s a full-on sellout, the first one for this program since 2014, which tells you everything about the excitement around this team. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+, so you know every single one of those fans will be ready to explode if UMass keeps this incredible run going!
